Health Academy
AHMP stands for Academy of Health and Medical Professions. This is a 4 year program at GBHS. Currently, we have a CNA Program, (Certified Nursing Assistant.) The student will take 1 class per year as part of the program. In the senior year, the student will spend time in area hospitals and nursing homes to get their 40 hours of clinical time. At the end of their senior year, they will test for their state CNA certification.

We have had 4 graduating classes so far. Our previous graduates have found this program very helpful in preparing for a career in medicine, getting into medically geared college programs and many of them work as CNA's while in college.

HOSA
HOSA stands for Health Occupations Student of America. It is a voluntary organization that many of our Health Academy students participate in. It teaches leadership, teamwork, citizenship and exposes them to the many aspects of the health care industry. There are competitions in many health categories at the regional, state and national level.

Our students have brought home many awards at all levels. Many have participated all four years of high school and have the opportunity to continue in college.
There are some fees that go along with joining and participating, but I think you'll find it well worth it for the experience the students gain. |
